Intensive OIL Painting 24 Lesson Art Course

Some prospective students have asked for an intensive immersion in learning to draw and to paint. They haven't the time or budget to fly around the world to the major art schools with their $100,000 cost for a four year art school enrollment plus the living costs to stay there.

This course does not pretend to equal a four year art school. There are no liberal arts components: Great Books Course, Sociology Course and the other liberal arts education components of a degree granting Fine Art College art course.

But there is a step by step plan structured into this intense course to allow a student to learn much of what they need to have a solid education in drawing and painting.

How long will it take? Depends on your available time. If a student can drop everything else, read the art textbooks and online supplemental eLessons on our school WEB site, and practice the exercises, then do the Lesson Assignments we post to their Personal Home Index Page on the school WEB site, the course could be done in 24 weeks.

For others, 24 months would be appropriate allowing time for real life, family friends, colds and the rest of the stuff life is made of.

We allow up to 48 months (4 years) for the completion of this Intensive Art Course in learning to draw and paint.

Will I be a painter when I am done? Nobody knows. How hard are you willing to work? How good a student are you - can you keep your nose in the Art textbooks supplied and read them and reread them till you get it (along with the help I supply in my hand drawn and hand painted critiques I post to your Personal Home Index page (to see a sample Critique click here).

I once had a teacher who said "paint 200 paintings and you will be a painter" - a good one, a medium one, but some kind of painter. There is also the old saying "Art is 90 percent perspiration and 10% inspiration". This is hard work and you can answer your own question about whether you can learn to draw and learn to paint.

Supplies and Art Textbooks: Art Textbooks are described below in each Lesson books are supplied for in the course outline at the end of this page

Art Supplies – When you learn how to draw and how to oil paint, it is imperative that you have the proper art supplies. That is why you will receive an array of materials. Included in your student’s package will be:

Drawing Starter Kit – An assortment of artist’s pencils to use with each of your drawing lessons.

Oil Starter Set – Just what you need when you start learning how to paint in oils. Twenty-six tubes of oil color, three specialty pencils, a sharpener, an eraser, four brushes, a putty eraser, a palette for color mixing, and a wooden carrying case.

Drawing Pads – You’ll also receive a 50-sheet, 14x17 drawing pad as well as a 10-sheet, 12x16 pad of canvases. These are not stretched canvases which you can buy yourself later as you progress as an artist ...these are canvas sheets for study and practice.

What you are NOT supplied with: The oil kit supplied is intended to be, as the oil STARTER kit. One of my students painted 40” by 60” oil paintings as he took the course. We could not possibly supply everyone with enough paint to do large and to do many paintings. Art supplies are expensive, even student grade. The course would be insanely priced to cover all students’ needs, like the 40 X 60 guy. We supply a STARTER kit and the student buys, and learns to buy what they need as they progress through the course.

Also note re supplies: –We cannot ship flammable substances like turpentine or oil paint medium via the Post Office or other shippers. That requires special licenses/procedures that online art stores are certified in. We will have certain materials shipped directly to you separately from those described above. Details are at: http://www.interactiveartschool.com/OilPaintingAccessoriesFolder/

At Pratt University in Brooklyn, where I studied, some students spent as much for art supplies as they did for tuition.
