Art Instructor Critiques

Each of your drawing lessons will receive a customized art instructor critique in order to help you improve and expand as you learn how to draw and how to oil paint. Critiques will use the following format:

  • Your digital camera image.
  • Art Instructor’s comments.
  • Instructor’s visual suggestions for improvement.
  • Links to images and/or information on the Web that you will find useful.
  • Possible animations to clarify points and offer instruction.

Art critiques are cumulative, printable and will remain on the site at the online art school for three years. You will also receive a CD-ROM copy of all critiques upon graduation. Art critiques can be placed in a common area where other students can learn from them, or in a private area for only your viewing.

Included In Your Art Materials Kit

Your complete art materials kit includes everything you need to graduate from the online art school. You are always free to purchase additional art materials (such as full-sized stretch canvases or alternate brushes, etc.) if you choose.

Materials Included In The Art Materials Kit

  • 10 Textbooks For Each Drawing Lesson – The basic text you’ll use is entitled “Art School: A Complete Painters Course.” There are also nine other art texts included that cover the various drawing and painting techniques such as: basic drawing, composition and color theory, how to oil paint (applying and mixing paints), still life and perspective, landscapes, and figures.

  • Digital Camera – You’ll use the digital camera to take photographs of your completed art lessons and email them to your art instructor. A Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 120 is generally included in your kit. While completing your enrollment questionnaire, you will be asked questions about your computer’s capabilities so that a compatible camera can be mailed to you. If you have any questions about the use or setup of the camera, please don’t hesitate to ask.

  • Art Supplies – When you learn how to draw and how to oil paint, it is imperative that you have the proper art supplies. That is precisely why you will receive such an extensive array of materials. Included in your student’s package will be:

Drawing Starter Kit – A tremendous assortment of artist’s pencils to use with each of your drawing lessons.

Oil Painting Starter Set in Wood Case– Just what you need when learning how to oil paint. Eight tubes of oil color,  The box has a hand carrying handle and is a great resource for storing all your bits and pieces. This set already includes most of what you need for your oil painting, packed with artists' quality materials, including Winsor & Newton's renowned oil paint. This beautiful bamboo wood box set includes:

    • Eight 37 ml tubes of Winsor & Newton Artists’ Oil Colors in Winsor Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Ivory Black, Winsor Blue (Red Shade), Winsor Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Umber, and Titanium White
    • 1, 75 ml bottle of Liquin
    • 1, 75 ml bottle of Sansodor
    • 2 Hog Bristle brushes (short-handled Flat #2 and long-handled Flat #2)
    • 1 Winsor & Newton 2B pencil
    • 1 Medium kneaded eraser
    • 1 Palette knife
    • 1 Winsor & Newton towel
    • 1 Double-dipper

Note: You will have to replenish oils, etc. on your own as you work. This is an affordable starter set. Some students work with the pallet of oil colors provided while others want a wider range of colors. Also, I had a student once who did huge oil paintings on huge canvases for his Lesson Assignments. It would make the course too expensive for most students to supply everyone’s with the massive art supply needs of a few

    Drawing Pads – You’ll also receive a 50-sheet, 11x14 drawing pad as well as a 10-sheet, 12 x 16 canvas pad.

There are certain skills you will need to possess or obtain prior to registering for our online art school. These skills are to ensure that you are able to fully interact with your art instructor as you learn how to draw and how to oil paint.

You should have:

  • Unlimited use of a computer with Internet access.
  • A computer with a CD-ROM drive.
  • A monitor capable with VGA or Super VGA ability.
  • The ability to send and receive emails with attachments.
  • High speed Internet access – if possible. Dial-up access is acceptable, but will slow your progress in viewing your critiques.

I will show you how to:

  • Use your new digital camera.
  • Upload and send images of your artwork from your camera.

After Your Complete All 6 Lessons

After your Lesson 6 critique is posted to your Web folder, you will receive a Certificate of Completion and CD with all your lessons and lesson critiques. Your CD will also contain my recommendations for the next steps in continuing your artistic development.
