The Interactive Art School (IAS) offers a totally WEB based art
course. You work at home or some in their office at your own pace.
Most of your study and practice is done away from the computer using
your Lesson Assignments and suggested practice plus the art
textbooks supplied and directions from your teacher supplied online.
How it works:
1. You enroll by secure credit card (we don’t process your credit
card, it is done off our site by Authorize.net)
2. We send you 10 heavily illustrated how-to-draw-&-paint art
textbooks, initial art supplies and a digital camera and set up a
Personal Home Page for you on the school WEB site.
3. You get your 6 Lesson Assignments and sometimes special eLesson
supplements to your art textbooks on your Personal WEB Home Page on
the school WEB site.
4. As you complete each Lesson Assignment, you email digital images
of your artwork to the school for review and online critiques.
5. Your teacher then reviews your artwork and does a drawn/painted
Critique showing you how you could improve, tells you where you need
to get more information from your textbooks or online eLessons and
posts that Critique to your WEB folder for you to review 24/7/365
6. In the full course, you get 6 Lesson Assignments and 6 Critiques
7. A four year art course at a leading Art University (like Pratt
Institute in Brooklyn, NYC where I received my BFA Degree) can now
take four years and cost over $100,000 USD. We have devised a more
affordable mini art education that you have up to 30 months to do at
home at your own pace.
8. The problem still voiced by many considering the IAS Art Course
is the $995 for the full 6 Lesson Art Course ($895 if you already
have a proper digital camera and don’t need us to send you one) is
the cost.
9. So here’s the idea for a lower cost approach – Critiques are only
done for the first lesson to help you with a jump-start the next
Critique is for the last Lesson. You self –learn on the middle four
lessons from the teacher’s directions, the Lesson Assignments 2-4
and the 8 art textbooks supplied for those Lessons.
10. The textbooks and Lesson Assignments are carefully constructed
to supply you with the underlying principles of picture making.
11. I also believe students learn, they are not taught. If you have
the discipline to read your art textbooks and follow the teacher’s
Lesson Assignments, you can save about 40% taking this course.

We have students all over the world (Japan, China, Australia, Saudi
Arabia, Malaysia, Mallorca, Grand Cayman, Great Britain, Canada as
well as all over the USA) plus years of teaching distance art
courses (at Famous Artists’ Schools) and “live” classes in
classrooms at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Fairfield University in
Connecticut, USA and in private art classes. We have found that by
supplying a structure of Lessons that go through the same process
taught at major art universities but with more step-by-step dense
art textbooks and more hands-on art critiques, students can learn to
draw and paint. To be sure, every student learns at a different pace
and some need more “hand-holding” than others This course gives you
a choice of what suits your needs and budget.
“Can I learn to draw and paint?”. . . you may ask – Only you can
answer that. Do you have the time and dedication to sweat and study?
I had a teacher at Pratt that said “paint 200 pictures and you’ll be
a painter”.
Everybody is different – Vermeer painted 1 or 2 pictures a year
while Van Gogh did 200 a year. Some people study very little and
grow by painting, others struggle and struggle. Only you can tell
and you have to try to find out. I’m not saying this is easy nor
would I promise riches and fame as some others do. These courses are
for people who want to learn to draw and paint. All the underlying
principles of western realistic painting are covered. This is not a
“you put a dab of blue here . . . . and smear a tree here” art
course. These lessons and the carefully selected art textbooks are
structured on:
1. How to draw light, shade and form.
2. Painting techniques for composition and color theory.
3. How to oil paint with still life and perspective.
4. Learn how to draw a landscape and painting techniques for
landscapes.
5. Learn how to sketch and how to oil paint figures (portraits,
animals, etc.)
6. Your Masterpiece! Your graduation painting on the subject of your
choice.
Upon graduation you will receive a certificate of completion and a
CD-ROM that includes all of your drawing lessons, all critiques, and
some vital “next steps” insights to help you continue to progress.
